Lymph

A transparent, yellowish fluid which arises in the tissues and travels in the lymphatic vessels. Lymph plays a part in the transport of nutrient substances and in defending the body against disease. The fluid which resembles blood plasma, contains white cells (mainly lymphocytes) and often small globules of fat. Lymph is moved through the lymphatic system by pressure from surrounding muscles; valves present it flowing backwards.
